On Wednesday, June 25, Universidad Mayor welcomed Dr. Geoffrey Pleyers, president of the International Sociological Association (ISA) and professor at the Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium), who participated in a conversation titled “Social Transformations and the Global Future” alongside Dr. Sergio Toro, director of the School of Government and Public Administration.
The interview, recorded in the university’s audiovisual studio for the program Sentir, Pensar y Actuar (Feel, Think and Act), addressed today’s major global crises and explored possible futures from a critical perspective—open to transformation and centered on the role of social movements in the global arena.
The event was held in the context of the launch of Pleyers’ most recent book, Change Is Never Linear (CLACSO, 2024), a work that reflects on the role of resistance, collective action, and political imagination in times of uncertainty. Previous publications were also highlighted, such as Chile in Movements (CLACSO, 2023) and the upcoming Spanish edition of Alter-globalization. Becoming Actors in the Global Age (FCE, 2025).
