CISS researchers Antonia Díaz-Valdés and Diego Palacios were selected in Universidad Mayor’s 2025 Internal Research Competitions, aimed at strengthening scientific production and fostering connections between academia and current social challenges.

Antonia Díaz-Valdés received the Research Conference and Seminar Assistance Fund, which will allow her to attend the GSA 2025 Annual Meeting of the Gerontological Society of America, where she will be presented with the Richard Kalish Innovative Publication Award 2025 for her article “Testing the mediating mechanism of alcohol use on the association between retirement and depressive symptoms in the United States using generalized mixed effect models.”

Meanwhile, Diego Palacios was awarded the Fondo Puente 2025 to develop the project “Help, I Need Somebody: Support and exclusion among students as protective factors against school depression,” which seeks to understand how peer support, belonging, and exclusion networks influence adolescent mental health within school environments.
