Diego Palacios, a researcher at the Center for Research in Society and Health (CISS), in collaboration with researchers from Italy, explored how adolescents with depressive symptoms perceive their social relationships.
The analysis, based on data from 275 students aged approximately 12, revealed that adolescents with depression tend to misinterpret their social relationships: they are less likely to express affinity toward some peers and more likely to perceive rejection. However, they were not more rejected or less accepted by their peers.
These findings highlight the importance of addressing adolescents' social and emotional perception to foster healthier and more positive relationships.
