Educational inclusion is a global challenge aimed at ensuring equal access and participation for all students. A new study titled "The educational environment: a focal point for tensions, challenges, and recommendations from professional education assistants in student integration programmes in Chile", conducted by Katherine Dinamarca, a researcher at CISS, and Verónica López, explores how education assistants perceive the school environment in Chilean School Integration Programmes (PIE).

Through interviews with 52 professionals, including speech therapists, psychologists, physical therapists, and occupational therapists, the study identified key tensions and challenges in promoting inclusion. The findings highlight that, while these professionals play a crucial role in integrating students with special educational needs, several obstacles hinder their work, such as the lack of interdisciplinary collaboration, an excessive focus on diagnoses, and limited training in inclusive practices.

The study underscores the importance of strengthening inclusive strategies in schools by promoting continuous professional development, fostering collaboration between teachers and specialists, and implementing policies that support diversity in the classroom.
